Challenge #9
In your own space, brag about yourself. Tell us what things you've done that you're proud of; the things that make you the wonderful person you are.
Oof. It's always hardest to talk about yourself, isn't it? We're so conditioned to temper ourselves, to hold back, that when given the opportunity to shout from the rooftops, it can be hard to find things to talk about.
So screw it, I'm gonna at least try.
♥ Last year I became a municipal liaison for NaNoWriMo, mostly because I really love my writing group and wanted to be able to help in some way. Throughout October and November of 2020, I led three two-hour long calls on Discord a week. And people showed up, session after session. We got to talk writing and write together and while our sessions are quieter now, we're still chatting and writing away. I learned that, yes, I can put these things together, and yes, I can lead the group, which makes it easier to do in my "everyday" life as well.
♥ I have finished complete drafts of three original novels. Are these drafts the best? No. Are these ideas salvageable? Yes. What's important is that I finished them, and I learned from them, and my next efforts will be better.
♥ I am writing for me, and the things that make me happy.
♥ I have managed to keep a bi-weekly posting schedule for Angel of Mine and am currently a chapter ahead on editing!
♥ I have two kids who are growing up to be awesome humans, curious and smart and (mostly) polite and definitely sassy as fuck.
♥ After years of putting it off and feeling as though things weren't "bad enough" to matter, I finally started addressing my lifelong anxiety. It's a long road, but I am worth it.
♥ I am more than enough. And so are you, whoever is reading this.

Date: 2021-01-18 07:40 pm (UTC)i honestly think you should always be your own first audience, because if you don't want to read the thing you're writing, why would you bother? right? and good luck with your novels! actually finishing them is an accomplishment on its own, nevermind what you do with them next.

Date: 2021-01-18 11:47 pm (UTC)Exactly! It's taken me a while to learn. After all, who doesn't get excited to know your work was read and enjoyed by others? But I write what I write and if someone likes it, they will come. And thank you! Now I just gotta find the energy to work on their next versions. ♥
