Barret’s thumb stroked her skin. “Happy?” he murmured in her ear.

“Mmmhmm. Very much so. You?” Tifa turned her head and kissed his shoulder.

“Yeah. It’s peaceful out here. You forget when you got machines hummin’ around ya all the time.” Barret drew a deep breath, eyes closed and tilting his face into the sun. “Could get used to a life like this.”

“We could.” For a long time, they couldn’t think beyond the immediate future. There was always one more fight, one more attack to plan against Shinra. When Sephiroth’s madness became apparent, it wasn’t like they could simply abandon all they’d worked so hard for. In the end, they saved the planet they were trying to protect. It still felt strange to be able to enjoy it. “Build a little house, with a playroom for Marlene and a view of the open fields.”

Tifa rolled her eyes. Every night, there was always someone like Ralphie. Usually a man who thought they deserved something more than they could get, whether that was another drink or something from Tifa herself. At first, it used to bother her, this constant onslaught of unfavorable attention. She wasn’t stupid - she dressed the way she did in order to attract these sort of men. Not for her own personal gain, but because it brought customers to Seventh Heaven and it earned her better tips. Plus, she couldn’t lie - it was easy to kick ass in this skirt, too.

This wasn’t the life she pictured when she finally left Nibelheim, but fate worked in mysterious ways. Tifa was still here, still breathing. And nothing Ralphie said would earn him a second drink.

He adjusted his gloves. It was a nervous tic, usually before a battle or a big fight. It amused her that Rude could still be nervous around her, too. “I’m a professional on the streets,” Rude reminded her. “And a professional in the… sheets?”

She snorted, covering her mouth.

“I’m not good with pick up lines.”

“Why would you need a line when you already have me?” Tifa sauntered over, toying with his tie. She licked her lips, looking up at him. “It’s good to have you home, Rude.”

And yeah, everyone's probably written a Gold Saucer date for these two, but I haven't yet, so here we are! Enjoy!

The Gold Saucer was chaos and sin all wrapped up with a neat little bow. It reminded Tifa of the revelry - and filth - of Wall Market, only it was more polished and contained. The Gold Saucer invited its guests to live a dream, forgetting about the real world waiting for you outside. Wall Market made it very clear: whatever you were running from would chase you through its gates.

But after everything they’d been through so far, all the traveling and fighting, didn’t the group deserve a night off? Cloud and Barret already left for the evening. Tifa didn’t know what the boys were up to, but she hoped they were having a good time.

So when Aerith grabbed her by the wrist, blinking those puppy dog eyes at her, Tifa knew she was a goner. “Don’t you want to go explore?” Aerith asked, fluttering her eyelashes. “Just a little bit? Let’s head out. They’ll never even know we were gone.”

She drew a breath, the scent of metal and oil and filth filling her nose. Tifa thought of Nibelheim, of the water tower and a sky full of stars. She thought of the quiet of a rustling wind, the chill of the night air. Up here, it wasn’t even cold - even the stale air was regulated. Still, she closed her eyes. When she blocked out the sounds of the city, she could imagine she was somewhere else.
