Summary: What must it be like to carry that weight every day, the way Setzer had? To build a loved one’s airship into a shrine, a tomb, yet resurrect it to search the ruined world in hopes of finding friends?
Notes: HAPPY SECRET SANTA RUNIC!!! [personal profile] runicmagitek I know what you like and you know I can't resist putting my boy Setzer through the wringer ;) Enjoy!

“When Darill died,” he said, “it fell to me to see to her final arrangements. The idea of burying her in the ground, to cover her soul with rocks and dirt, never sat right with me. She deserves to be among the stars.”

She knew what this was, now. When Setzer called the Falcon a tomb, he wasn’t kidding. He’d lovingly restored his friend’s crashed airship and laid her to rest among the ruins. He never expected to return. To bring the Returners to this place — to bring her, a former General — spoke of a courage Celes hadn’t known Setzer possessed.

Celes glanced away. In another life, this might have been Darill’s room. She imagined a proud, tall woman lounging at that desk, feet kicked up, a map of the world spread before her. Setzer spoke of her with such admiration, no wonder walking the halls of the Falcon felt akin to sharing space with a ghost.

The words were heavy on her tongue. “What do you need from me?” she asked.

Notes: Written for [personal profile] deemoyza as part of Yuletide!

Her gaze shifted back to the skyline again. There, in the distance, lay a little island. From above, there wasn’t anything to see but greenery and a bit of shoreline, but Celes knew.

There was a little hut.

The fish she caught but couldn’t eat.

A dying man’s last words.

And a woman who decided it was better to live than to die alone.

Title: Into the Night

Characters: Celes Chere, Edgar Roni Figaro
Pairing: Celes Chere & Edgar Roni Figaro
Rating: Gen
AO3 Tags: Mid-Canon, World of Ruin, Self-Reflection
Summary: Celes takes a moment to reflect on how far she's come since the solitary island.

Notes: For ~Siver. Your requests mentioned Celes, the opera, and expanding on some of her moments in game, and this is what popped out. I hope you enjoy! ♥

“Shut up, Edgar.” Celes huffed, sheathing her weapon. “I thought you were asleep.”

“I could have said the same for you.” Edgar tested the balcony, taking one cautious step forward, then another. With his hair free of its usual ponytail, he looked younger, like the stress of being the King of Figaro slipped from his face. He gazed out over the town. “Look at all this. Reminds us what we’re fighting for.”

She hummed her agreement. “You have Figaro to think of,” she reminded him. “You have plenty to defend.”

“Yes, of course, one of us needs to be the responsible one.” He turned his eyes to her. “And what of you, my dear Celes? What are you fighting for?”

His hands were gentler than she expected. He ran his fingers through the strands first, tugging gently whenever he encountered a tangle. Every so often, his fingertips would brush over the back of her neck. Every time, she shuddered. Celes closed her eyes, wondering what he looked like behind her.

Was he smirking still? Was he enjoying himself? Did he think she was some silly, foolish girl who didn’t know how to braid her own hair? The thoughts would eat her alive if she let them.

Title: Understand the Miracle of Living

Characters: Setzer Gabbiani, Darill (Final Fantasy VI), Celes Chere, Edgar Roni Figaro, Sabin Rene Figaro
Pairing: Darill/Setzer Gabbiani
Rating: Teen and Up
AO3 Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Alternate Universe - Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies, Disabled Character, Amputation, Injury Recovery, Pre-Canon, Mid-Canon, World of Ruin, Established Relationship
Summary: Sometimes a fiery ending is the only way to spark a new beginning.

Notes: For [personal profile] runicmagitek as part of [community profile] press_start_comm. I hope you enjoy your gift! The prompt I chose was an AU version in which Setzer rescues Darill and nurses her back. I hope this fits the bill for you - I had a lot of fun writing it! ♥

Darill was more to him than a peer, a friend, a confidant. What had once started as a rivalry between two likeminded souls grew into solid, true love. Darill was going to prove herself to the world someday as the best pilot and mechanic that ever lived. Setzer’s own skills paled in comparison to Darill’s, but he learned more every time he watched her. This sort of race provided them both with a thrill unlike any other. Setzer chased it at poker tables and he found it in the arms of this insatiable, incredible, genius woman. A woman who would rather fuck in the engine room than on a bed of silk and flowers, and Setzer loved her all the more for it.

The last thing either of them expected was a malfunction in the engine room. Her ship, the Falcon, burst into flames, large enough for Setzer to see from a kilometer behind her.

This was no longer a race - this was a rescue mission. Darill’s ambition could cost her life.

Title: Make All Your Sorrows Undone
Fandom: Final Fantasy VI
Characters: Celes Chere, Tina Branford | Terra Branford
Pairing: Celes/Terra
Rating: Teen and Up
AO3 Tags: Established Relationship, Post canon, Post-World of Ruin, Long-Distance Relationship
Summary: Sometimes home isn't a place, it's the person you can return to again and again, a bright spot in a world recovering from darkness. For Celes, that bright spot is Terra.
Notes: For ~FireEye! Enjoy your Chocolate Box gift! The prompt of yours that resonated most with me was Celes and Terra, "just seeing them eventually happy far past the hurt and pain would be wonderful." I hope this fits the bill for you, and thank you for requesting it!

Having been here several times over the years, a few people nodded to her as she passed, while others did a double take at the light armor she wore and her sword at her side. Creatures still roamed the countryside and Celes would never be caught defenseless. Her cloak billowed behind her as she walked, the royal seal of Figaro clasped at her shoulder, but Celes wasn’t here on business.

The orphanage had its own building now, a modest two story house with plenty of windows. A vegetable garden filled the front yard, tomatoes on the vine almost ready to pick, mirroring the strawberry plants on the other side. Already, she could hear voices coming from the backyard. Bypassing the door, Celes made her way around the side of the building, a route she knew by heart.
