I finished the first draft of the sequel to With These Hungry Eyes at write in today!
I ended with a final word count total of 51,583 words. Considering that I estimated the story to be between 50-60k when I wrote the outline, that's right on target! I also broke it up into 20 chapters, but I may end up combining some of them later on. I'm still not good at figuring out where chapters should go anyway. *shrug*
This is the first time I've outlined a big fic completely, from start to finish, and that let me blast through scenes faster than I initially anticipated I would. Doing word sprints also helped - I may keep those up going forward, if only as a way to balance writing new words with editing the other ones.
The fic's current title is What's Meant To Be (Will Always Find A Way), after Trisha Yearwood's "She's In Love With The Boy." That may change between now and publishing it in November, but we'll see what happens.
My current plan is to let it sit for the next two weeks, at least, before doing initial edits. Then I'll send it to Bailey so they can look it over for any major plot overhauls. I'm not terribly worried about line edits, as I'm good with those, and I'm hoping my detailed initial outline means I caught the plot stuff on the outset. Either way, I can't start editing it now because it's still too fresh.
I'm doing great on this, timeline wise. The rough draft is due September 21 and I would love to have edits to Bailey before then. Ideally, let's set a goal of September 1 for edits, but that can change.
Next up: My Press Start fic, which has a title and a general idea, and that's more than I have when I start most exchange fics.
