On November 8, 2016, the day after Gabby was born, Trump was elected president. The night nurse was terrible and refused to let me send Gabby to the nursery so I could get any sleep.

I spent that night pacing our hospital room, cradling this newborn I'd just brought into the world. I kept telling her over and over, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. We tried so hard." It was the first time I'd voted early, just because I knew I wouldn't be able to get to town hall on Election Day.

Today is November 7, 2020. Joe Biden has now officially won the election. Today is also Gabby's fourth birthday.

Happy birthday, little girl. We got you a new president.
