Everyone gave him parenting advice, but he’d never understood the one that said to let a child soothe themselves to sleep. Who ignored a crying child? Not Barret. If it meant he sacrificed a good night’s sleep to help his daughter, so be it. He finally drifted off shortly before dawn, figuring a few minutes’ rest was better than none.
When he opened his eyes, a quick glance at the clock showed it was well past eight. The sheets were rumpled, but a small weight was missing. “Marlene?” Barret murmured, blinking away sleep. “Marlene?!”
