(you're gonna get three replies, sorry not sorry!)
So! Laguna and Ellone. It occurred to me that 1. Laguna was on the space station when Squall and Co. arrive (I always sent Irvine with him) and 2. Ellone was on the space station at some point before Squall gets there, so this was their reunion. Lots of found family feels but sadly I've also kinda forgotten where I meant to go with this? It'll come back someday.
Until then, here's a snippet!
Tiny and delicate, she stood out among the rough and tumble technicians in their white coats and beige flight suits. In a white skirt and a sky blue sleeveless shirt, she was dressed more for a tea party than going to space. She toyed with the fridge of her green shawl as she looked around, eyes finally settling on Laguna. “Uncle Laguna?” she asked, and the same sweetness she’d had as a child was still there, even though she didn’t sound the same.
“Elle!” He ran past everyone and scooped her up into his arms, lifting her off her feet. He couldn’t toss her around like he did when she was a child, but that didn’t stop him from clinging to her. “Elle, you’re here! You’re really here!”
She threw her arms around him. Her laugh still sounded the same, and he knew this was his adopted daughter. No one else laughed like that. “It’s good to see you too, Uncle Laguna.”
Setting her down, Laguna didn’t let her go, leaning his forehead against hers. “I’m sorry,” the words got out before he could say anything else. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there. When I returned to Winhill and they told me Raine was gone and I couldn’t find you and-”
“Shhh,” Ellone murmured, resting a hand on his chest. “It’s done now. I know… I know it wasn’t your fault.”
“Doesn’t change the past,” Laguna said, closing his eyes. He should have been there for Raine. If he had been, maybe he could have saved her. At the very least, he wouldn’t have let her die alone.
“No,” she agreed, “it doesn’t. But we can make the future better. I’ve learned that now, I think.”
