Silence fell over the battlefield. Steve would have preferred the gunshots and cries of the fight, but the war was over now. Everyone they’d lost had returned, but at a price: the lives of Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff. She should be here to see their victory. Steve murmured a silent prayer to gods were watching, hoping that they would carry Tony’s and Natasha’s souls into the afterlife.

The sound of someone inhaling a deep, sharp breath caught them all off guard.
