With Camp NaNo wrapped up for April, let's see how I did on those goals.
I managed to write 33,836 words, surpassing my 30k goal for the month. This is awesome! Most of those words were on the rewrite of One New Message. I estimate that I'm about 1/3 of the way through the draft, and this includes several important new scenes. I've introduced a friend for Celie! I broke up the Thanksgiving dinner scene so now you not only get to meet her family, but understand more of their dynamic! I'm proud of the work I managed to do on this month, even if I didn't get as far as I wanted.
I also went back to editing Angel of Mine. I've come to the conclusion that I do not need to spend weeks agonizing over edits on this beast. Some parts need to be rewritten, this is true. Others I can do a "quick edit," look for phrases that can be cut, and move on. As a result, I cranked out a bunch of pages I'd been sitting on for more than a month.
Putting said edits into Scrivener is another story. I've started for Chapter 15. I'll get there this week at some point. I said the story would return to posting in May, but I didn't say when, so I don't feel like I'm letting anyone down.
We did three write ins a week in support of Camp, all of them virtual via Discord. They weren't as well attended as they were in November, which I expected, but I'm still glad we did them. We also didn't do nearly as much writing as we do in the fall, either, but in November, everyone expects that write ins will be all sprints and less chatter. There were several nights when it was just Stacy and I shooting the shit before we called it a night. I found I needed the socializing (on my own terms, in my house, rather than having to go out somewhere) as much as I needed the writing time.
Also, today I took Q to the bookstore, and of course he picks the most expensive book he can find - a $30 Godzilla comic - but it was the quietest ride home I've had with him in a long time. XD I think that's a parenting win. I also picked up a copy of Shadow and Bone, so I hope I'm not disappointed.
That's all I've got for now. Hopefully my creative streak continues.
