End of the year writing meme from [community profile] getyourwordsout!

Favourite work: This is like pulling teeth. Of my original work, I'm still probably most fond of The Imperial Story, even if that is a disaster of a story that is never going to be finished any time soon.

For (posted) fics, it's probably Beyond the Stars and Stripes, which I swear to god will someday get its second chapter posted so I can also post the (already beta'd!) third chapter.

Work you're most proud of: A Hero Lies in You, which isn't posted yet, but I'm hoping it'll be this year!

Your most under-appreciated work: Things My Heart Used to Know (Things It Yearns to Remember) Like... it's the one Kylo Ren fic I'll ever write, and it's because Matt looked at me one day and said, "I'm gonna die laughing if Kylo Ren finds out he's adopted." It's what I wanted Ben Solo to be.

Your most over-appreciated work: With These Hungry Eyes, Steve Rogers/OFC. I really ought to write a sequel to this, because there's ideas that just haven't formed yet for it.

Favorite title: A Hero Lies in You, because it's from Mariah Carey's "Hero." One, because the song itself fits the theme of the novel perfectly - teenagers trying to figure out how to be heroes, and Rangers coming into their own power. And two, I really liked the idea of a 90s song for the title, since I've been trying to work more of the original MMPR canon into the 2017 universe.

Least favorite title: One Grande Squall Macchiato, Please, which fits the story but it just not as cool as all the others.

Where do your titles come from and what type of title do you use most often? SOOOOOOOOONGS FOR LIFE YO

What kind of working titles do you use? Generally I leave a brief description of either the exchange or the fandom. For example, A Hero Lies in You is still technically saved as "Power Rangers fic" and my [community profile] hlh_shortcuts fics are "2019" and "2019 v.2," respectively.

Most unsuitable/funniest working title: Haaaaaa Eventually the Power Rangers/MCU crossover will involve the cast of Power Rangers in Space, and the working title for that is "Space Jam." For reasons.

Weirdest thing you had to research for a writing project: Not weird. But trying to figure out what small airports were closest to Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Project you had the most fun researching: I got to watch a lot of old school PR for Hero.

Project that was the most difficult to research: Not so much research as world build, but fuck, the Imperial Story.

Project that was the most difficult to write: Also the Imperial Story. I think that if I can flesh out more world building bits and know for certain those are solid, then the rest of the story won't be so hard to finish. I also didn't outline the first draft of Seven to begin with, so you know. You reap what you sow.

Project that's been a work-in-progress for ages, that you just can't seem to finish: HAAAAAAAAA ALL OF THEM

Currently Rivendale. It's sitting at 65k and I feel like I just got to the fucking plot. Again, worldbuilding shit.

Work you want to write one day, but haven't yet started: *slams fist into the table* The Infinity War and Endgame parts of the PR/MCU fic my god

Work you thought you would never write, but finally did: Going back and writing Power Rangers fic, all these years later. Because it was my first foray into posted fic, years and years ago, and my friend group teased me relentlessly for it. So I decided I wouldn't write it anymore, and tried to ignore it, when it's the happiest thing I've done all year.

Genre you write most often: Fantasy/paranormal fiction

Genre you thought you would never write, but finally did: Contemporary fiction

Genre you want to write some day, but haven't yet done so (and why not): Something historical. Mostly because there's too much research and too many little details to keep straight.

Genre you'd like to write more of: idk, something that's not fic?

Genre you think you'll probably never write: Horror.

Longest amount of time passed between starting a project and finally finishing it: Um. First ideas for the Imperial Story were shoved into a folder in high school, so 2002-2003. This fucking thing will never be finished.

Favourite character: Holy shit. How do I pick a favorite child.

RP characters: Quentin James, Isaiah Williamson/Zacharias Smith

Originals: Ravyn Wormwood (born witch turned goddess), Rivendale

Fanfiction: AJ Oliver from A Hero Lies in You. My stabby, reckless little chaotic ninja who really wants to do what's right, but you're really not going to like the way she does it.

Character who is the most difficult to write: lol shit villains all the way. Evil!Tommy in A Hero Lies in You comes to me.

Character who simply writes themselves: hahahaha motherfucking AJ

What's more difficult, plot or characters? Plot, what's a plot?

(If you outline) biggest difference between the outline you prepared in advance and the finished work: The ending for One New Message surprised me. I knew I needed to wrap up family stuff with Celie, but her talking to her grandmother in the cemetery packed such an emotional punch that I never saw coming.

Perfect word, and the context you used it in: lol shit this implies that I look through a thesaurus on the regular, which... I don't. I'll get back to this one.

Favourite opening line: "The first time Darcy Lewis met Steve Rogers, she ran smack into him and spilled her latte down his shirt," from Beyond the Stars and Stripes.

Favourite ending line: (you get a whole passage!)
The Power Rangers turned the corner, their own blades at the ready. She doubted the Rangers would be as forgiving as their shadows were.

“Hi,” AJ said, relaxing her stance but not lowering the katana. “Uh... I know this looks bad. But I’m not here to fight you. I know who the Green Ranger is.” She drew a breath and slowly let it go. “And I need your help.”

The Black Ranger stopped first, staring at her. Finally, he tilted his head.

“AJ?”

Setting you managed to write about without ever having visited: Lolz. Angel Grove doesn't exist. I've also never been to California, though I've written about that a bunch too. Sometimes successfully.

Favourite POV to write: 3rd

POV you would never consider writing: 2nd

Do you mostly write for challenges/contests/fic exchanges/publishers' calls for submissions, etc. or do you mostly write in your own time? Fic exchanges as well as my own stuff. It's fun to write a short little something for someone else ♥

(If you write stories with relationships) Mostly first time or established relationship? or something else ? Both. Both is good.

Oneshots/standalone stories or series? Most of my exchange fics are oneshots. But oh, the ideas spiral out of control.

Is there a type of story you read but would never write? Or maybe one that you've written, but rarely read? Honestly, I will read reader fic if it's written by someone I know is good, and it's rampant within the Marvel fandom. Writing it - or wanting it written for me - is generally not my thing.

I still need to read your finished Kylo Ren fic D: I loved the draft you sent me forever ago. It's really disheartening how people just gloss over gen fics and stuff, you know?

I love your Squall Macchiato story omg I'm so glad you wrote that.

AND WAIT A DAMN MINUTE.

BORN WITCH TURNED GODDESS???????

Nothing can stop the now permanent grin on Ziggy's face while telling everyone they pass by, "See her? Yeah, I'm with her."

Also Calista is shaking pompoms for Quentin and is all like, "Yaaaay! You were a fave!"
