Anyone up for some writing prompts? Some of my favorite prompts come from song lyrics, and some of my favorite lyrics come from my favorite band, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, and his previous bands, Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin.

So! Pick a lyric, write a snippet, and I hope you find something that inspires you! Any fandom/ship is game. ♥ Tag me (I'm also wingsyouburn on AO3 and tumblr) or link me so I can read what you came up with!

Something Corporate

- The wings that you burn turn to ashes, my dear, and ashes just fall to the ground. ("Only Ashes")

- I am a butterfly, but you wouldn't let me die. ("Me and the Moon")

- I don't care if you dye your hair, you'll always be a little redhead bitch. ("If You C Jordan")

- Come on sweet catastrophe. ("Hurricane")

- If you could be my punk rock princess, I could be your garage band king. ("Punk Rock Princess")

- Now old cassettes and cigarettes will be the ones to save you. ("Fall")

- The more I step into the sun, the more I step out of the light. ("Straw Dog")

- There's things that aren't worth giving up, I know. ("Watch the Sky")

- The first star you see might not be a star - I'm not your star. ("Konstantine")

- Little minds let little games burn big old dreams with little flames, and you don't think I understand. ("Little")

Jack's Mannequin

- Every inch you see is bruised. ("Bruised")

- Swim for the music that saves you when you're not so sure you'll survive. ("Swim")

- Windows leading to the past, think it's time I broke some glass. ("Caves")

- It started feeling like October. ("Annie Use Your Telescope")

- What's a girl to do with friends like this? ("Holiday From Real")

- Take another piece of me and there won't be another left. ("Release Me")

- It's funny how the words we never say can turn into the only thoughts we know. ("Restless Dream")

- I lost my place, but I can't stop this story. ("Spinning")

- I'm finally numb, so please don't get me rescued. ("Rescued")

- And you never write me letters, and you never sent my sweaters, so I could stay warm when I was without you. ("Last Straw AZ")

Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness

- A little town and a faded beauty, they still remember when she was queen. ("Canyon Moon")

- You've got a heart like a neon sign. ("Shot Out of a Cannon")

- Come back to earth, kid, you know you can't chase the stars underwater. ("Birthday Song")

- When the last of your friends have gone, you learn a whole lot about hanging on and on. ("House in the Trees")

- Preserving life is as good as dying. ("So Close")

- Some hearts that break aren't broken. ("This Wild Ride")

- You and me and the dark make light. ("Dead Man's Dollar")

- My heart is a troubled captain, but let's not get caught up on the weather. ("Brooklyn, You're Killing Me")

- I've been drinking since the day I set you free. ("Halls")

- I could watch you all night long dancing to someone else's song. ("High Dive")

These prompts are interesting. I'm a sucker for music based prompts anyway.

"I could watch you all night long dancing to someone else's song."

She didn't need a stage to dance. Music swelled in the air and her feet did the rest. She skipped past concert halls, woodwinds and brass echoing in the foundations. She swayed and hummed late at night in the kitchen, a catchy pop song on repeat on her phone. She pirouetted amidst rain-slick city streets, unaware and unconcerned of those who watched.

Besides, all that mattered was if he was watching.

And he did. He always did. Stakeholders and business investments forever demanded his attention, but in between - those rare, yet decadent lulls - he flicked his attention to her. Always brief. Not nearly as long as he wished. But her laughter and smiles proved to be infectious; no confection or vintage matched the sweet bliss she embued.

Sometimes, she extended a hand. "Dance with me," she purred, a command more so than a request.

And sometimes, Val reached back, brushed fingertips across her smooth palm, and allowed Darill to sweep him away - where the world blurred and dimmed until it was only them.

Oh, love these. I immediately thought of something for the first one ... will I write it? Probs not because I'm awful at follow through.

Ooh, thanks for the inspiration! I managed to write a little something based off the lyric, "I lost my place, but I can't stop this story," featuring post-FFX Lulu and Yuna. It kind of got away from me, and can probably no longer be called a "snippet," but I had a lot of fun writing it! :)

Ack, these are such good lyrics

If I can get my brain to resemble something less like wet porridge this weekend, I might have to try and write something for one of them.

Thank you!
