Fujin stopped before him, looking him over. Seifer preferred to be back at Garden, standing in front of Headmaster Cid, waiting for his punishment. Cid he could handle. Disappointing Fujin was worse. Gripping his chin, she turned his head, examining his face.

“WORRIED,” she finally said, dropping her hand.

“I’m sorry.” Seifer rarely said those words and meant it.

“Like I said, we know you. This?” Raijin pointed to him. “This is the guy I remember, y’know? Not the one leading the Galbadian army.”

“How did you get in here?” Celes swore she’d locked the dressing room door, if only so the Impresario couldn’t bust in on her.

The woman shrugged. “I’m well known around these parts. There’s nowhere in the Opera House that’s off limits to me.” Crossing her legs, she looked Celes up and down. “You, however, are not Maria.”

The fancy dress and the ribbon in her hair didn’t fool anyone. Celes straightened her shoulders. “No, I’m not.”

“Yet you sing Maria’s part.” The woman cocked her head. “And you’re not the understudy.”
