we're not caught up in your love affair;

Ran to the library this morning to pick up two books we ordered via interlibrary loan for Q. It's a graphic novel series called Castle in the Stars, and he blew through books 1 and 2, so our lovely librarian found books 3 and 4 for him.

Now, I don't usually go to the library on Saturdays, and I know the youth librarians the best, since I almost always have the kids with me. No matter, I like the library! So I ask for my holds, and the older librarian working, who was probably in her 60s, looks at these graphic novels and says:

"Oh, these obviously aren't for you."

Like... the fuck??? Anyone can read whatever they want? Yes, these ones happen to be for my son, but I just blasted through volumes 1 and 2 of Check, Please. I checked out volumes 1 and 2 of The Old Guard. And from what Q's told me about this story, fuck yeah I want to read it!

Or is it because I'm a woman who should be reading, idk, some romance story or a James Patterson mystery or some shit???

I just... because I'm an adult, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy young adult stories. For me, they're often a faster read and something that makes me happy, even if they're tropey. The important part is that someone is reading, and you should never judge someone else for what they're reading. Be lucky they're reading at all.

*sigh*

I did come home with a good book haul for me, though: The Old Guard, book one of The Witcher, and a writing book I've contemplated buying before, but now I can try it before I spend money on it.

I did take joy of making that librarian check out my graphic novels. :D

The fuck????

I will never understand this mentality. There's no law stating you need to stop liking things when you reach a certain age. Hell, so many shows and movies meant for kids have so many adult-adjacent bits sprinkled in to keep the parents of said kids interested as well.

This also reminds me when I used to work retail and I swear once a week some mom came in to ship video games to a son in college and would complain to me that their 18 year old needed to grow up and how that stuff was only meant for young boys. ....you know me. You know EXACTLY how that conversation went down lol.

These are the same people who pull a muscle gasping so hard over boys wearing pink and girls playing with action figures. Like legit, the only one who needs to grow up in this scenario is the fucking librarian twice your age.

Also, enjoy your books! That's a solid stash 😎
